On Friday, March 11th, the whole world watched as tsunami waves triggered by a massive 8.9 magnitude earthquake made way to the shores and communities of Japan. As of today, the death toll was confirmed at 686, but countless people are still missing and the numbers are sure to rise. I cannot even imagine the suffering that the Japanese people are going through… the same type of suffering that Haiti experienced and is still dealing with after their earthquake just over a year ago. It is so easy, especially in these times, to be thankful for what we have… clean water, food, a roof over our heads, health… and life itself.
We are all responsible for each other, and we would like to contribute to helping Japan rise above this catastrophe. For the rest of the month, we will be raising funds to donate to the Canadian Red Cross. We will be selling special fundraising cupcakes that are adorned with the symbolic red disc found on the Japanese flag. The red disc symbolizes the sun as Japan is often referred to as the ‘land of the rising sun’.

For every dozen fundraiser cupcakes sold, The Cupcake Place will donate $5 to aid for Japan via the Canadian Red Cross. Fundraising flavours are: Vanilla Beanie, Cocoa Beanie and Velvety Red. Please email info@thecupcakeplace.ca for more information or to place your order.
If you would like to contribute without receiving cupcakes, we recommend donating through the Canadian Red Cross as it is a trusted and reputable humanitarian organization.
Be the change you want to see in the world. ~ Mahatma Ghandi
