After a loooong 72 hours of prepping for the show, we did not regret it one bit (although still a little doozy from the lack of sleep). We are completely blown away and touched by the support and love for our cupcakes that was shown by everyone… it’s not even funny.
This year was another sellout – this time, by 4pm. All 400+ cupcakes… gone.

We were absolutely thrilled when we received a request to create ‘Coach’ cupcakes. Little hand painted fondant replicas of a purse and a patterned, sugar rimmed disc adorn these Velvety Reds.

There are SO many families enjoying The Cupcake Place cupcakes this weekend, it’s not even funny. We are always honoured to be a part of special events and holidays and are so thankful for all of our wonderful clients. =)
After a super long weekend of creating Easter cupcakes, we are shutting down the kitchen. We’re off to spend some well deserved quality time with our loved ones!

YAY! It’s that time of year again. The spring Mamas and Chicks Show has to be THE mother and child show to be at twice each year. This show will mark our 5th time there and we cannot wait! Read about the last fall show here …and last year’s spring show here.

In North America, we are very blessed with having a plethora of opportunities. We have access to health care, housing and food… the basic necessities of life. It is heartbreaking to know that there are people around the world that have very little compared to us. The cards could have been dealt differently… and ‘they’ could be ‘us’. It is interesting how it has even become ‘they’ and ‘us’… when in actuality, it is ‘we’. We are all responsible for each other. It is ‘Just Right‘ to do good.
The Cupcake Place will be sponsoring the Just Right Project: Toronto on Thursday, April 21st. This initiative works to raise money to build homes for the poor in Sorsogon province, Philippines. It takes only $2300 USD to build a home in the village that they call Aytona Village. Groups of volunteers and villagers work together to build these houses that will be passed down from generation to generation. The project is similar to Habitat for Humanity.

Although most fundraising has taken place in Los Angeles, the people of itsjustright.org in collaboration with their Toronto network have organized an event here in Toronto. Now, there are many individuals and businesses that have hopped on board the ‘Just Right‘ train to help make the event successful.
The social event is happening inside Blondie’s – 1378 Queest Street West in Toronto. There will be a minimum donation of $10 and ALL proceeds will be going to the ANCOP Foundation who oversees the building of these homes. If you are in the area (or not) come out and support this wonderful cause. You can have a cupcake while you’re at it.

A few weeks ago, our friends over at Totem Resolve met with Method Man after his show in Toronto. Read the original post here. I was able to handpaint a few original Wu-Tang logos and the new-ish Method Man logo in gold over black fondant to top off some of our famous Velvety Red cupcakes. I love painting on fondant because I get to use coconut rum as my base (yum!). But for those who follow us on Twitter already know that…
To be completely honest, what surprised me was the sincerity of Meth’s gratitude. As an artist, it is always nice to know that your work is appreciated. From one artist to another, I think the exchange of energy and vibe was mutual. He thinks that my ‘sh*t’s beautiful’. For Method Man, that’s pretty heartfelt in a grimey/street/hip hop kind of way – and I definitely feel the love. =)
My response: “We got that fly sh*t, boy – you didn’t know?”
