The Mamas and Chicks Show: Spring 2011

After a loooong 72 hours of prepping for the show, we did not regret it one bit (although still a little doozy from the lack of sleep).  We are completely blown away and touched by the support and love for our cupcakes that was shown by everyone… it’s not even funny.

This year was another sellout – this time, by 4pm.  All 400+ cupcakes… gone.  😉

Here’s a peek of our Spring 2011 display:

See you in the Fall!  =)

Just Right: Toronto

In North America, we are very blessed with having a plethora of opportunities.  We have access to health care, housing and food… the basic necessities of life.  It is heartbreaking to know that there are people around the world that have very little compared to us.  The cards could have been dealt differently… and ‘they’ could be ‘us’.  It is interesting how it has even become ‘they’ and ‘us’… when in actuality, it is ‘we’.  We are all responsible for each other.  It is ‘Just Right‘ to do good.

The Cupcake Place will be sponsoring the Just Right Project: Toronto on Thursday, April 21st.  This initiative works to raise money to build homes for the poor in Sorsogon province, Philippines.  It takes only $2300 USD to build a home in the village that they call Aytona Village.  Groups of volunteers and villagers work together to build these houses that will be passed down from generation to generation.  The project is similar to Habitat for Humanity.

Aytona Village House: After

Although most fundraising has taken place in Los Angeles, the people of in collaboration with their Toronto network have organized an event here in Toronto.  Now, there are many individuals and businesses that have hopped on board the ‘Just Right‘ train to help make the event successful.

The social event is happening inside Blondie’s – 1378 Queest Street West in Toronto.  There will be a minimum donation of $10 and ALL proceeds will be going to the ANCOP Foundation who oversees the building of these homes.  If you are in the area (or not) come out and support this wonderful cause.  You can have a cupcake while you’re at it.  😉

Raise It Up: Japan

Raising Funds & Awareness for Japan

In 2009, Hurricane Ketsana (Ondoy) hit The Philippines and various other countries in Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia, China, Thailand & Laos). It displaced thousands, left many dead and has cost the above countries over $250M USD in damages.

The event(s) left an impact on many people worldwide and forever changed the lives of our family & friends, both home and abroad.

I took a look at my life, the lives of my friends and realized how fortunate we are to have clean water, a roof over our head and clothes on our back. We often take these things for granted, but it reassured me that we were all in a good position. A position that allowed us to not only provide for our family and friends, but to help others when needed.

The power of prayer is incredible, but I knew that we could do more..

I knew we had no choice, but to #RaiseItUp

With the help of many generous friends who donated their time, talent and money, we were able to raise over $2,300 for The Philippines and other affected countries.

On Friday, March 11th 2011 a 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit Japan which triggered a tsunami killing thousands and causing a crisis at a local power plant.

CNN reports that the death toll is over 8, 600 and over 13, 200 are still missing. Although much is being done to find the missing and care for the injured, those numbers continue to rise.

Toronto, it is our duty as human beings to care for one another and lift each other up when we are down.

Please join us on Sunday, April 10th 2011 at 8pm as we #RaiseItUp

KidKut and Trixx: 100% Aries

For as long as I can remember, KidKut has always been in and on top of the Toronto ‘urban’ scene… and no one can make you laugh as hard as Trixx: Toronto #1 Underground Comedian.  Last night, they celebrated their birthdays together at The Vue Nightclub… complete with The Cupcake Place cupcakes!  Can I also just say that The Vue has to be one of the most beautiful night clubs I have ever seen!

The focal cupcakes were our famous Velvety Reds topped with cream cheese icing lined with silver dragees.  They are finished with fondant discs with each of their names going across the front… in black and white… to match the design concept of the flyer.

I also couldn’t help but to do a microphone for KidKut.

Movember MoParty: The Winners Circle

Okay.  So we have good news and bad news.  The good news is that we went live at about 10 minutes after 7… selected and announced the winners as planned!  Yay, right?  Well… the bad news is really for us – because we didn’t ‘record’… we really wanted this to be the first of many, and be one of those videos that we always go back to.  We just ‘broadcasted’.  So the only people who saw it were the ones who saw it live.  It was our first time EVER using Ustream, so it was pretty good for first time users…  I guess.  Hopefully there will be another opportunity for us to use Ustream and we promise we’ll have it down the next time around.  =)

SO… here are the winners!  Thank you all for participating.  I hope that everyone had a great time and was able to take something from the experience.  We will be sending out messages to contact you… so keep your eyes peeled for a FB message.  =)
